Hudson Cast Iron Cleaner Review

Cast iron cookware is my absolute favorite for almost everything.  But it can be a challenge if you don’t keep up with the maintenance and sometimes it just needs a little boost. There are several ways to manage it, and I have used brushes, copper scrubbies, and other methods, but was happy to find the Hudson Cast Iron Cleaner to test.

cast iron cleanerThis cleaner is made of stainless steel and looks like someone took a hanging basket apart.  The little interconnected rings are made of  316L stainless steel- the highest food grade steel in the industry.  Instructions for using this little gadget are pretty simple, just take your still warm pan, run it under warm water and use this cleaner to gently scrub the cast iron clean.  You should never use soap or other cleaning agents on cast iron,  and this cleaning scrubbie is used with just water.

It does require a little adjustment to work around the pan, but gets it very nicely cleaned without a lot of effort.  After using it, I gave the pan another rinse, dried it, and then put a tiny bit of oil seasoning on it again.

I like to keep my cast iron well seasoned and find that too much harsh scrubbing can affect that.  This cleaner did not seem to cause any problems with the pan, but did easily get it clean and ready for it’s next use.

I was a little skeptical of using it on  glassware, though it said it was safe to do so  But a casserole dish with baked on residue needed cleaning, so we put it to the test.  It does indeed clean glass without scratching and gets baked on food particles removed without much human effort.

This is a very useful cleaner!  As it is stainless, it resists any bacteria buildup and is easy to rinse clean, although it is dishwasher safe.
