Our family loves vegetables but the healthiest way to enjoy them is either raw or steamed. I’ve had a very inexpensive steamer basket that fell apart after some use, so was a little hesitant to try another, but decided the Sunsella Stainless Steel Vegetable Steamer had promise.
The Sunsella steamer is made from 100% high-grade stainless steel, including the legs and center post. It made my kids think of a UFO with the style, but it’s pretty clever; the collapsible sides allow it to fit into a wide variety of pots and it then stores in much less space, too. It is shipped as one piece and requires no assembly nor any special instructions.
To use, add water to your pot, set the steamer into the pot, allowing the sides to rest against the sides of the pot, add veggies, put a lid on the pot, and steam until desired tenderness. To remove, use the central ring. You can also remove that central post for steaming larger items.
This steamer is quality stainless steel that is safe for food and easy to clean. I just washed and rinsed, though it appears to be dishwasher safe.
My only complaint is one that won’t affect smaller families or those that eat fewer veggies. The steamer is a nice size for an average family, but for our large family, it’s a bit too small. The actual dimensions are a diameter 5.3 inches to 9.25 inches – Height range (legs included) 2 inches to 3.35 inches, plenty big enough for many households. In fact, we use it for smaller batches when we are having a variety of foods.
This is a very good stove top steamer basket that will last a long time and is very functional for most families. Highly recommended!
