Sketches of a Small Town…circa 1940: a Memoir Review

Sketches of a Small Town…circa 1940: a Memoir Review by Clifton K. Meador, MD is a wonderfully written story about his life in the little town of Greenville, Alabama in the 30’s and 40’s.

sketches of a small townI enjoy reading books that relate the stories of memories of days past and this book is such a warm story of Mr. Meador’s youth.  Situated in the Deep South, the stories told encompass happy times with family and friends, life situations and trials unique to the era and many that most youth experience, and a range of emotions that reminded me of my own youth.

Although I didn’t grow up in the South, I was drawn in to the story and felt like I was a part of Meador’s hometown life.  He did a wonderful job of weaving his stories together, drawing in emotions and keeping the feel of the era and time.

Sketches of a Small Town  depicts a life rich in experiences that helped secure Meador’s life values and shape his life.  It was wonderful to follow his stories and meet the people about him; Meador draws out his characters with a intricate sense that left me feeling as though I knew them.

This story will take you through a range of emotions and leave you feeling quite attached to the small town in a bygone era and the people within.
