Cheese Slicer and Grater Combo Review

Our family enjoys cheese and often we opt for a block of cheese, rather than pre-sliced.  It usually seems to be more flavorful and of better quality, but not all slicers and graters are as functional as I expect.  I was anxious to try  the Cooking Concepts Cheese Slicer and Grater to see if they would work as well as the description said.

cheese slicer graterBoth the slicer and grater seem to be very well made.  The blade on the slicer is made of stainless steel and is very sharp.  It’s angled, which allows for thin, even slices.  The handle is very easy to grip and does not slide around at all, even when slicing hard cheeses.

Does it work?  Hard cheeses can be rather dry and often crumble when sliced with a and slicer.  The Cooking Concepts slicer was able to cut through very dry aged cheddar and make nice slices.  To be fair, a couple did break, but I found that practice made a difference and with a little better balance I was able to produce some very nice slices of my favorite extra sharp, aged cheddar.

The grater’s test was on Parmesan, one of our family’s favorite cheeses that often grates lumpy.  The Cooking Concepts grater did a good job, not absolutely perfect, but very good.  It might perform better as I practice more.

Both instruments cleaned very easily using sudsy water and then rinsing.  They are said to be dishwasher safe, but I prefer handwashing and found them easy to wash by hand very quickly.

If you are looking for a good manual cheese slicer and grater, this is a very good option.
