Credit card thieves seem to be getting better at their evil craft all the time including the current trend of skimming or digital pick-pocketing. We use debit cards, but those are just as vulnerable to theft scans as credit cards, so I was happy to be able to try the BLOCKIT RFID Blocking Sleeves.
These sleeves come in a variety of designs and colors, which might not be necessary, but it is nice to have a choice on something that is sometimes seen. They are all vibrant and I would have liked any of them, but pretty flowers are my thing.
But, pretty aside, these sleeves have a job to do to be truly functional. Cards do fit in the sleeve, snugly, but they fit. It is not especially easy to move them in and out, but that is part of the point. It should not be easy for thieves to see them, scan them, nor steal them.
I have an over-sized wallet that I keep in my purse and the sleeves fit into the wallet but again, snugly. I can’t imagine how they could make the sleeves smaller to fit better, since the cards need to fit inside; they need to be the size of the card, making everything a tight fit.
While I don’t have a fool proof method to test these sleeves against scanning, they are constructed to prevent scanning by the use of 3 performance layers – A layer of aluminum material blocks 13.56MHz frequencies, a copper substrate layer blocks all 125kHz, while the outer layer is a glossy attractive full color design. Hidden inside my wallet in my purse, I think my cards are now safer.
